Chiropractic for Lower Back Pain
Lower back pain is the most common reason people see a chiropractor.
What to expect
An exam, possibly imaging, then a course of spinal adjustments often combined with exercise and advice on posture and activity.
What the evidence says
The American College of Physicians' clinical practice guideline lists spinal manipulation among non-drug options clinicians and patients may choose for acute, subacute, and chronic low back pain (the guideline rates the supporting evidence as low-quality, and notes most low back pain improves over time regardless of treatment). Benefit is generally for short-term pain and function.
Educational summary, not medical advice. Evidence evolves — discuss options with a licensed provider.
When to see a physician
See a physician promptly for back pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, loss of bladder or bowel control, leg weakness, or pain after major trauma.
